After last week’s Great ShakeOut drill, Pacific County officials say it’s no accident that residents can’t hear tsunami sirens along Sandridge Road. Pacific County Emergency Management says the AHAB sirens are designed for distant earthquakes that cause tsunamis from far away, not the kind that would hit the bay side. In a major local quake, they say the shaking itself is your cue to head for higher ground since the sirens could go silent. Emergency managers say people can request maps showing the safest routes to nearby high ground.
