A memorial service will was held today for former Grays Harbor County Sheriff Michael Whelan.

A memorial service will was held today for former Grays Harbor County Sheriff Michael Whelan. Sheriff Whelan passed away on January 27 in Montesano due to an unexpected medical event. Whelan was hired as a deputy with the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office in 1977. During his 35-year career, he held several ranks and served in a wide variety of roles. He was elected Grays Harbor County Sheriff in 1999 and retired in 2012.
